South african Overland Safari - 20 days

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:
South Africa – Panorama Route

Leaving behind Johannesburg, the city of gold, we head through the province of Mpumalanga and some breathtaking vistas of the Lowveld. Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes will be some of today’s highlights. We will spend the evening just outside of Kruger NP.

Day 2:
Kruger National Park (Day 2 & 3)

We get up early and visit a Wildlife rehabilitation centre for an educational experience before we enter Kruger NP. The next two days are spent exploring the southern part of this vast reserve and we stand a good chance of sighting Africa's famed big five. An optional night drive with one of the South African National Park (SANP) rangers is an excellent way to see some of the nocturnal animals. Optional Activities: SANP Night Drive or Dawn Game Walk.

Day 3:
Kruger National Park

Today we enter the Kruger National Park, home to the Big Five, eager to view some of Africa's wildlife over the next three days. Optional Activities: Night Game Drive.
We enter the Kruger National Park where we will spend 3 nights exploring and viewing the game. We will not stay at the same campsite for all 3 nights and will move about in order to get the vest game viewing possible. All of the South African National Parks (SANP) campsites are very well maintained. It is possible to book a night-drive or a guided hike in the park through the SANP offices in Kruger – both of these activities can be very rewarding experiences.

Day 4:
Swaziland - Mlilwane Wildlife (Day 4 & 5)

Today we leave the Kruger Park and cross the border into Swaziland. We spend the next two nights in the Mlilwane Nature Reserve where we are able to explore the area on foot. We will also experience the wonderful Swazi culture first hand visiting a traditional village.

Day 6:
South Africa - St Lucia

Leaving Swaziland, we travel through the subtropical region towards the Indian Ocean. We spend the afternoon exploring the St Lucia World Heritage Park and enjoying the unique sights. The following day we journey down the coast to Durban.

Day 7:
Durban

We will spend the night in this vibrant city. It is possible to go out this evening to try one of Durban’s famous Indian restaurants.

Day 8:
Drakensberg (Day 8 & 9)

We leave Durban and the Kwa-Zulu Natal coast and travel to the Royal Natal National Park and the mighty Drakensberg escarpment. The next day is spent at leisure. You can choose any of the local activities such as horse riding or take a short hike in the spectacular surroundings.

Day 10:
Lesotho (Day 10 & 11)

After a full day's drive we arrive in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. When border formalities are completed we climb into the mountains to our rustic overnight spot. The next day we get up early and those going on the Pony Trek will ride into the remote hills of Lesotho accompanied by local guides. If you choose to remain behind you can simply relax or visit the local village, school or craft market.

Day 12:
Coffee Bay (Day 12 & 13)

We have a full day to relax on the beach or go on a hike to the famous ‘Hole in the Wall’. Optional Activities: Xhosa Village Visit. Although the day getting to Coffee Bay is spent travelling, we are rewarded by the natural experiences and sights during the day.

Day 14:
Addo Elephant National Park

We spend our time in Addo Elephant National Park surrounded by Elephants! These magnificent creatures are always a highlight and Addo provides us with many fantastic photographic opportunities.

Day 15:
Tsitsikamma National Park (Day 15 & 16)

After an early morning game drive we say goodbye to the elephants and drive further along the sunshine coast until we reach Tsitsikamma National Park. This beautiful coastal park provides us with some amazing hikes, including the first section of the well-known Otter Trail.

Day 17:
Knysna

It is a short distance to Knysna, there are many activities on offer here as well as the chance to explore this interesting town. Go fishing on the lagoon, shopping in the town or abseil off Knysna Heads – the choice is yours.

Day 18:
Oudtshoorn

After arriving we take a tour of the Cango Caves. Later in the day you have the option of visiting an Ostrich Farm.

Day 19:
