Nairobi to Nairobi Gorilla’s overland safari - 14 day

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:
Lake Nakuru / Eldoret

We depart the colourful metropolis of Nairobi and head for Lake Nakuru. Numerous animals are found here, but the shallow soda lake is particularly known for its bird life. Westward from the Rift Valley, we pass through verdant tea plantations, as we head towards the town of Eldoret on the banks of the Naiberi River.

Day 3:
Kampala - Uganda

Today, our Gorilla safari takes us across the border into Uganda and we travel via the lakeside town of Jinja and on to the capital Kampala. Uganda is a small country of striking physical beauty. The landscapes vary from the fertile green areas around the shores of Lake Victoria to the snow capped Ruwenzori Mountains in the west. We overnight at a centrally located campsite from which you can explore the nightlife of Kampala.
Meals: BLD

Day 4:
Mbarara - Uganda

The safari continues as we depart Kampala and we commence west to the university town of Mbarara. We visit the local market to browse for gifts and your guides obtain fresh supplies before our journey continues to Lake Bunyoni.
Meals: BLD

Day 5:
Lake Bunyoni

We set off en route to southwest Uganda. This region is home to roughly half of the 700 Gorillas remaining in the world. We spend the night in anticipation and finalizing our preparations for the next few days of trekking.

Day 6:
Bwindi National Park

An early start sees us enter the dense Bwindi forest. Our trek through the forest is an unforgettable experience. At times the trekking can be demanding and the day long as we search for the elusive gorillas.
Experienced local guides lead us through thick jungle, tracking where the gorillas will have nested overnight. Gorillas are extremely sociable and interactive primates, groups normally numbering between 12 and 20 individuals. Most people’s impression upon their first sighting of a 300kg silverback is a mixture of incredulity and awe. At close quarters the gorilla seems almost human in its mannerisms.
This is quite possibly one of the most thrilling and evocative experiences that Africa has to offer, and certainly one that will remain an enduring memory from your travels.

Day 9:
Jinja - Uganda

A short drive away from Kampala is Jinja, the source of the River Nile. Here you have the option to get the adrenalin levels pumping and enjoy some of the best white-water rafting in Africa.
Meals: BLD

Day 9:
Lake Bunyoni

We return to Lake Bunyoni today for some rest and relaxation after the excitement of the last few days.

Day 10:
Jinja

A long day's drive brings us back to Jinja where we can enjoy all the optional activities on offer. One of the best activities is the rafting on the Nile, the longest river in Africa. Optional Activities: Rafting and River boarding

Day 12:
Lake Naivasha

Today we re-enter Kenya to Lake Naivasha, the 'sunshine lake'. Here the option is available to do an overnight trip to the Masai Mara National Park or to remain behind, and go cycling in Hells Gate National Park. Optional Activities: Masai Mara, Hells Gate NP, Elsamere

Day 14:
Nairobi

After a relaxing breakfast we make our way back to Nairobi for the end of our adventure. We normally end off the tour by going out for supper to one of the excellent local restaurants.
